ADV Films logo - Image 1Rumors from the frontlines of the format wars: according to reports from ICv2, anime distributor ADV Films (or AD Vision) has chosen to go for the Blu-ray format for future anime releases in high definition. Of course, if this rings true a good number of anime titles comes with ADV’s move.

According to ICv2, information regarding ADV’s move came from a “highly placed source at the company.” Additionally, it was noted that ADV’s newer titles will be released in HD first, rather than its older anime. If so, release dates of the newer anime will subsequently be pushed back since they would have to be given the high def treatment.

Other anime publishers like FUNimation and Bandai Visuals are still on the fence regarding which format to release future HD anime. With ADV’s rumored move, will the other two go ahead and choose their respective formats?

We’ll keep you posted on this one. For now, stay tuned.
