A ROM update (version 1.62.502.0) for AT&T’s Tilt—basically the ideal Windows Mobile phone around, hardcore bugginess aside—is supposedly rolling out today that’ll fix a handful of the critters, such as device freezing during a password unlock, busted Bluetooth headset functions, tones for the slide-out keyboard and occasionally buggy touch screenage. The 3-430 has a 12-megapixel image sensor and Live View, which turns the LCD in the back into more of a point-and-shoot screen. You look at the LCD instead of through the viewfinder, just like a point-and-shoot. (I think Olympus was the first to introduce Live View to its SLR—correct me if I’m wrong there, I often am.) Live View’s handy if you need to do the ol’ “hold the camera above your head to get a shot” maneuver.
The cam also supports “real” USB 2.0 speeds. I guess previous models were gimped in that respect?
Add in the expected-from-an-update larger image buffer and faster frame rate—how fast the camera takes pictures when you hold down the shoot button—and it looks to be a fine entry by Olympus. You can also tell that it looks a hell of a lot less bulky than SLRs are known to be, which I would imagine plays at least some role in scaring folks away from using them.

Now that the worst Hallmark holiday has passed us it’s time for a contest! Once again, TeleNav has been generous enough to give the lucky winner three free months of service. So how do you win? It’s pretty easy, really. Tell us over at BFF your worst Valentine’s Day horror story – getting lost on the way to your date, being stuck in traffic, not knowing where the hell you’re going with that new hottie, or not being able to find the secret spot for that late night booty call. Just put “WVDE” in the subject line. Got it? Good. Now get to it. Same rules apply as always for contests at BFF. The most votes wins and the contest will end on Wednesday at 12PM EST.

For the record, I would like to state that I’m really bored of these outsized erections popping up all over the Arabian Peninsula. This one is going up in the Dubai Marina. It’s called the Infinity Tower (because that’s how long it seems that we have been covering these giant penile substitutes that are currently littering the Middle East) and its USP is that it twists 90º. This is the blurb on the 1,000-foot, 80-story, twisted monstrosity.
Imagine a tower whose very special spiralling design reflects the boundless energies and ever-changing shapes of the deserts, winds and seas that surround it.
I think that the Infinity Tower reflects the boundless money and ever-burgeoning profits of foreign contractors as they reap the seemingly never-ending petro-dollars of Dubai and its neighbors’ ruling families. Hot dang, there goes my invite to the opening of the Burj Dubai. [Infinity Tower]

Those of you excited about that cheap, small Everex Cloudbook Wal-mart laptop as an alternative to an Eee Personal computer might be slightly disappointed. Laptopmag just unboxed theirs, and found many things wrong with it. The pointing device is above the keyboard on the right, but the left and right mouse keys are on the left side, also above the keyboard. What the? Update: They’ve got a mini-review up.
Not only that, the initial setup screen—similar to the part where you enter in your time zone and make a user in Windows on first startup—was not carefully thought through. Why? Because there’s no way to advance past a time zone screen; at least unless you know the crazy Linux alt+click to drag the window UP and reveal that there is a button to go to the next screen. Way to go Everex. Anticipate tons of returns before the system is even setup. Sounds like a disappointment so far. We’ll see what Laptopmag has to say later. [Laptopmag and Laptopmag]
Laptop has a mini-review done, and here’s what they find. Once it’s running, the web surfing is speedy, the desktop is clean, but the keyboard, touchpad, boot times, Wi-Fi setup, and resolution suck. Also that “window doesn’t fit inside the screen” problem they ran into during setup still occurs in actual use, which is pretty awful. The company says they had the wrong OS install, which might fix things in the final retail version. All in all, it looks like the Eee is a better bet for your $399. [Laptopmag]
