verizonstore.jpgVerizon’s got a bunch of new Unlimited plans coming tomorrow. Can you taste the bitter, metallic flavor of pure excitement in the air? People with fat wallets and big mouths will be sure to like the unlimited voice plan for $99, and they only get more high-priced from there.

Here’s the full rundown:

* $99 - Nationwide Unlimited (voice)
* $119 - Nationwide Choose Unlimited (voice, SMS, MMS)
* $139 - Nationwide Premium (voice, SMS, MMS, VZNav, VCAST, email)
* $149 - Nationwide Email and Messaging (voice, SMS, MMS, and data)
* $169 - Nationwide Global Email and Messaging (voice, SMS, MMS, and international data)
* $199 - Family plan with two lines, $99 per additional line.

If you bump your plan up to one of these unlimited jobs, you’ll get actually unlimited data usage (as opposed to 5GB a month) and you won’t need to extend your contract. [Boy Genius]

If only there were a game like Guitar Hero where you could also play drums and sing instead of just playing the guitar parts. They could call it something like oh, I don’t know, Band of Rockers or Rock Guys Rocking Together or Making the Band or Hey, Come Over After School And We’ll Jam In My Basement With The New Gibson Epiphone My Dad Purchased Me After I Found Out He’s Been Sleeping With His Secretary. Or maybe just something simple like Rock Band would do.

Anyway, Ideal Buy’s website says the upcoming Rock Band: Aerosmith will grant you to “drum like Joey Kramer, wield an axe like Joe Perry and Brad Whitford, bring up the bottom like bassman Tom Hamilton and belt out vocals like the legendary Steven Tyler. Unlike the real band, you won’t have to endure years of touring and endless hours on stage. Just pick up your instrument and play, or put the mic in your hand and sing.”

It’s set to release on June 29th and will cost $50 to $60 depending on your system, so we’ll see how you’re going to get the drumset and microphone that’ll allow you to do all of the aforementioned rocking.

Sleep%20Waking%20GI.jpgFernando Orellana and Brendan Burns have teamed up on a neat project, which involves a robot logging and re-enacting dreams of a human subject. Brainwave patterns and eye movements during dozing will be monitored, depending on what’s logged, the robot will modify its behavior accordingly. Sure, this isn’t dream enactment proper, but it is as close as we are going to get in the not too distant future. The robot, dubbed Sleep Waking, will function in two main ways. Jump for the video.

Its head will be controlled by the eye position of the subject, e.g. if you’re eyes are looking left, Sleep Waking will move its head to the left. The second behavioral control will rely on EEG information. Using an algorithm, the creators discovered a set of brainwave patterns, to each pattern a pre-programmed behavior was assigned. When a match is made with the EEG readout, Sleep Waking will carry out the designated action.

The creators hope that their work is seen as a vision of the future, where one’s dreams are able to be enacted accurately, and dream scenarios are recorded just as photos are now. It’s an interesting concept, and we want whatever Fernando and Brendan are drinking, but our dreams are most likely to get us into a whole lot of trouble. Some things are just ideal left inside the old brain chamber. Frankly, what we did to that elf woman/unicorn in our dream time would surely have us dumped for obvious reasons, fired for doing it whilst we should have been at dream work, arrested for violating bestiality laws and punched in the wiener because Mr Elf/Unicorn was thoroughly displeased in reality. Man, that dream was tripping. You can catch Sleep Waking on February 16th at the Exit Art exhibition. [We Make Money Not Art]

samsung.jpgNot content to corner the market in world-changing Nextel phones, Sprint has got its greasy paws on the Samsung ACE, a rebranded — and improved — Blackjack with EV-DO and a separate SIM card slot for world support.

The phone runs Windows Mobile 6 and has a 2.3-inch color screen and QWERTY keyboard. Interestingly enough, during testing in Barcelona we discovered that the ACE can’t text using the SIM chip, something Sprint is probably scrambling to fix right now. To prevent you from jumping off Sprint’s network while you travel, the company supplies an “unlocked” SIM card for use in the phone:

A Sprint-provided SIM card is provided pre-installed in the device for
customers who wish to utilize Sprint International Roaming Services (special activation
required) while traveling abroad. Customers might also take advantage of the unlocked SIM
which grants the device to accept an in-market international carrier’s SIM for voice and data
services.

Sly devils. It also runs Sprint Television and On-Demand and includes a 1.3-megapixel camcorder. Finally, you can connect the phone to your Personal computer as a wireless modem. Why is it called the Ace and not the Blackjack Sprintino? It seems AT&T has the corner on the Blackjack market which precludes others from using the name.

format-war-sinking-ship.jpgWith the HD DVD ship sinking faster than the Titanic, the rats are quickly abandoning the ship: according to rumors, Microsoft may be releasing a Blu-ray-based Xbox 360 soon. We don’t know if the rumor is real, although it seems reasonable to anticipate it. The only real question is when. Their Microsoft insiders are saying May. We are saying maybe. [Smarthouse]

gmail-notifier.jpgThere are quite a few email notifiers on the market, but none of those gadgets can give you the satisfaction that comes with building something with your own two hands. Given the fact that I’m lazy and unskilled, I would just as soon purchase the device, but for anyone with skills and some determination, having a flashing notification of mail in your Gmail inbox can done with any output device you’ve lying around, an Arduino board and some software. Hit the link for a full set of instructions. [j4mie via Make]
