Anyone out there have a white iPhone? Is it cracking? We got a tip from a reader named Steve, who has a post about the cracking white iPhones on his site here (in French) which pertains to a thread in the MacRumors forums found here.

There are about six pages and a handful of photos with complaints about barely noticeable to quite noticeable cracks. Anyone else experiencing similar phenomena?

UPDATE - John just noticed his cracking this day. He’ll post a picture tomorrow.

It has been nearly 3 years since the original Linux-based GP2X handheld first arrived, and based on this spy shot, it appears that a second-gen version is well on its way. Naturally, not much is known about the device other than a GP2X emulator should run on it after recompiling and it is (tragically) being called the “Wiz.” Let’s hope not because I already bought a “Wii” so I doubt that I would be able to stomach another product with a name that stupid. If there’s one real guitar hero out there that shouldn’t be confined to one system it should be Jimi Hendrix. Like him, love him, hate him or whatever, Hendrix captured the imagination of what being a guitar player could mean. He’s an icon for a reason.

However other big name acts (and estates) are battling it out in a different kind of battle of the bands. Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2 are the two main competing franchises and that necessitates an inherent want to sign exclusives. No matter how you feel about some of the huge names of rock, there can be no denying the economic impact having a band like Metallica or Guns ‘n’ Roses signed only to your game. According to Rolling Stone, Guitar Hero and Rock Band grossed nearly $1 billion combined in 2007. One Billion Dollars.

Tim Riley, from the Guitar Hero side of the camp pretty much admits the obvious by saying:

There’s a huge list of artists and songs that are available. There’s a smaller list of the ones you really want, and there’s a supershort list of the ones you’ve to have. So it’s safe to say we’re all kind of going after similar things.

Rock Band 2 has an exclusive G‘n’R track, while Guitar Hero landed Metallica. Metallica is named as the next possible band to have their own edition of Guitar Hero, following in the wake of Aerosmith’s success.

The Hendrix estate has licensed several songs for the upcoming GH:WT, but the possibility remains open for inclusion on Rock Band. With huge dollars involved and a limited pool of talent, it looks like well-established rock acts (and their record labels and publishers) are going to be in the middle of some bidding wars.

The iPhone 3G’s data plan for the deaf will be $10 higher than the original, just care about it is for everyone else. It comes with unlimited texting, email and web browsing for $50 a month, or $65 for the enterprise flavor (basically if you use Exchange). You have to sign up for a voice plan when you buy the phone initially, and then you send in the eligibility form to get the plan. [AT&T]

When I got to play around with the Surface back in June, I was excited about the possibilities of other shapes and applications, but Microsoft responded to questions on that front as they responded to nearly every question: “There are many possibilities and we’re looking into things” or some analogue thereof. Well, they’re letting one shape out of the bag this week, the totally expected spheroid version of the Surface and our local journalists have dirtied it up with their tiny paws (and taken video). To be honest, it doesn’t appear that different from the flat surface, although the fundamental change from a limited shape to a continuous one is something I’m sure the designers are excited about. They take interface design very seriously and seemed very good at it as well, so maybe I’ll be as impressed by the sphere Surface as I was by the flat one — as soon as I get my hands on it.

These are the current software profits for Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony based on first-party game titles published under their banner. It’s much like the hardware situation, with Nintendo up front with an uncountable amount of money, Microsoft somewhere in the middle with a deficit, and Sony pulling up the rear with billions in the red. So not only is Nintendo turning a profit from each Wii sale, it’s also generating loads with their games as well. We hope Ninty’s taking all this cash and coming up with a next-next-gen system with both unique motion-sensing gameplay AND good graphical capabilities—not to make Wii Sports P.E. Fun Times, but something good that we would want to play. [EDGE via Kotaku via Boing Boing Gadgets]

You see, there’s this thing about Spider-Man games. They can either be surprisingly awesome, or they have the ability to be horrible, buttery crap. There really isn’t much middle ground. If the above trailer for Spider-Man: Web of Shadows from Comic Con ‘08 is any indication, this one might just wind up the former. Its got the visuals. Its got ass-kicking a’plenty.. Oh yeah, and its got Wolverine and Spiderman goin’ all symbiote and throwing things around. Yeah, I’m pumped.

The game should hit just about every console (360, PS3, PS2, PSP, Personal computer, DS and Wii) on October 21st, 2008.

With the FCC’s approval, Sirius and XM had a shotgun wedding over the weekend, and is now officially Sirius XM Radio, with over 18.5 million subscribers (technically XM is a subsidiary of Sirius, making it the wife, I guess). Let the promised savings and awesomeness start. [InfoWeek]
