Today’s Newegg deal involves a $30 mail-in-rebate, but it’s a pretty damn good price for a 16GB flash drive. Enter in the $5 promo code EMCAHDBAJ found on their savings page and you’ll get $5 off, which coupled with the $30 rebate nets you a drive at $34. What can you do with a 16GB flash drive? What can’t you do? [Newegg - Thanks Adam!]

This “physical ambient display” is beautiful and useless — in other words, it’s art. It senses the position of your finger in the water based on electric gradients and adjusts the display based on that. It uses a lot of horsepower to do it; I bet analog equipment with real bubbles could get much the same effect. Not that I’m ragging on this thing — it’s very cool, and part of its appeal is that it’s a digital/analog crossover.

Sheathing something as slick and pocketable as the iPhone in a holster feels wrong to me for many reasons, but this particular holster adds the handy capability to charge your drained batteries with its own rechargeable Li-ion battery back. It’s good for one full charge before it needs to be recharged itself. Handy, and at $25 the price is right, but this thing is massive. Product page says this only works with first-gen iPhones and iPod touch—but I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t squeeze a 3G in. [Product Page via BBG]

According to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter, Nintendo has a handheld gaming device in the works ready for launch by year’s end.
“We think that the timing of a new product introduction will depend upon the sales profile for the DS, and believe that lower than expected DS hardware sales could trigger an earlier launch for the new device,” Pachter said in an investor note.
“DS sales are solid worldwide, but are weak in Japan, leading us to expect an introduction of a new device in Japan before the end of the calendar year.”
He said that Japanese DS demand will likely continue to decline. He adds, “We think that Nintendo has a new handheld device ready for launch in [Japan] before the end of the calendar year.”
What new wonders might this handheld from Nintendo hold?

Yesterday, Kotaku reported on Nintendo and 54 software makers filing an injunction to cease the sales of the R4 and similar devices in Japan. For the uninitiated, the R4 grants you to download DS games on the internet and play them on your DS. Yes, DS piracy. And now said piracy is threatened! So what does that mean? R4 sales are through the roof. Hell, even I bought one yesterday.
The R4 is sold all over the place in Akihabara, the nerd district of Tokyo, and the employees at stores there have already noticed an uptick in sales.
The rush in demand has been breathtaking. These devices always sell well. But this weekend should be staggering, don’t you think?
Yes, I do think. So if you’re on the fence about getting one or just discovered their existence thanks to this lawsuit, now seems like a pretty good time to jump on board. For, uh, homebrew games only, of course. [Kotaku]

Sure it lacks a hard drive and comes with a wired controller, but it’s only $170! Wait. What the heck do you do with an Xbox 360 that’s sans HDD? Another stinker is the two-month warranty. Yikes. via The Gizza
